Il film rappresenta il giusto riconoscimento al famoso ex pilota americano Chesley Sullenberg, facendoci ricordare la sua storica impresa avvenuta diversi anni fa di salvare miracolosamente passeggeri sull'aereo della US Airways a causa del contatto con uno stormo di uccelli che colpisce l'aereo e compromette irrimediabilmente i due motori.
L'esperto pilota si venne a trovare pertanto in una situazione [ Siamo di fronte ad un capolavoro vero e proprio, una storia raccontata in modo semplice, diretto, quasi come se fosse un docu-film.
E scelta migliore non poteva essere quella di scegliere come attore protagonista Tom Hanks. Una storia banale per certi versi, eccezionale per altri.
E ancora una volta esci stordito dalle immagini, dalle emozioni che questo incredibile vecchio americano riesce a regalarti. Il Clint Eastwood degli anni ci ha ormai abituato a film imponenti come regista e anche questa volta non tradisce le aspettative.

While the film has the NTSB presenting flight simulations showing that the airplane could have been landed at an airport, in the actual public hearing, Investigator-in-Charge Robert Benzon stated that "These flight simulations revealed that a successful return to LaGuardia or a diversion to Teterboro Airport was not assured".
I do not know why the writer and director chose to twist the role of the NTSB into such an inaccurate depiction. Their treatment of the NTSB went very far beyond cinematic license into simple mean-spirited dishonesty.
The movie may actually be detrimental to aviation safety. Pilots involved in accidents will now expect harsh, unfair treatment by investigators.
Hanks told the Associated Press that Sullenberger himself was disturbed by the fictionalized version, going so far as to ask having reviewed an early draft of the script that the NTSB investigators' real names be removed from the characters.
According to Hanks, Sullenberger felt that the real-life investigators "were not prosecutors" and it was not fair to associate them with changes in the story to depict "more of a prosecutorial process".
