Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen recommended that dedicated helicopter IC flights bring patients from the highly affected south to other Dutch regions with much lower infection rates, freeing up southern IC facilities for admission of new patients.

The Radboud UMC has extensive experience with medical helicopter flights, as their trauma center manages one of the four Dutch helicopter emergency medical services HEMS.

The recommendation was approved, and the IC helicopter flights commenced in mid-March. Virtual in Reality — Reality in the Virtual. Virtual Reality VR has been available commercially for over 25 years but its use in flight simulation has been somewhat limited due to its fidelity and affordability.

However, technological advances over the last five years has meant we are starting to see the emergence of VR applied to helicopter flight.

Scott McKenzie looks at one of the leaders in VR helicopter simulation and touches on how it has the potential to be a game changer in flight training.

Revolution Coming VR has been revolutionary for gaming and has potential to revolutionise a multitude of disciplines, especially in aviation.

VR has been used for maintenance training in organisations that have a high training overhead and can afford the initial outlay to reduce downstream training and operational costs.

VR for flight training has been expensive, unreliable and lacked fidelity. The technology is advancing at an exponential rate and has advanced to the point that it can provide stunning immersive training for helicopter flight.

It is a very good basic immersive system which allows the practice of a few basic flying techniques, with its vertical reference training being one of their key selling points.

It also has the option of being fitted with a type specific cyclic and collective. The Royal Australian Navy have bought three as a recruiting tool.

There are a number of limitations to the Ryan Aerospace system for initial and on-going pilot training, however, it could be used for some basic VFR procedural training in response to an external stimulus, rather than an aircraft emergency or instrument flight trainer.

When it comes to high fidelity flight training, VR is few and far between because of the requirement to manipulate the instruments and avionics.

Gaining spatial orientation in the real world whilst operating in the VR world has been difficult but options are available with handsets or special clothing.

Some simulator developers have trialled mixed reality with limited success as technology has not quite been up to the task. Well it looks like a new technological age has dawned and we are on the cusp of another step change in the way that aviation simulation is able to be achieved.

I have been fortunate to fly a number of helicopter and fixed wing simulators, and trial many more, but there are some key differences to the VRM simulator which I believe could revolutionise simulator instruction.

Namely realism, eye tracking, body tracking with no special clothing required , distributed training and size. At a time where the focus of rotorcraft development is on the military, Paul Kennard provides an overview of new technologies being developed by Airbus for the civil helicopter market under its RACER Rapid And Cost Effective Rotorcraft program.

Unlike a tiltrotor, X2 technology retains the main rotor in a fixed plane but stacks two systems coaxially; spinning in opposite directions they provide the requisite anti-torque control for stability and slow speed handling.

The FARA threshold speed requirement is a far more modest kts — a speed that the non-compounded RAH Comanche achieved — so Bell has focused on the lowest risk, challenging Sikorsky to make the X2 Technology work in a production helicopter.

The AW is, of course, a tiltrotor. Born as a joint project with Bell along with the AW , the AW has experienced an extended journey from concept to service.

Could an electrically driven anti-torque system be the radical new concept for the tail rotor? Most of us who operate in the rotary wing industry have at some time been subject to or maybe the subject of!

Or perhaps they expressed something more colourful! Ever since the first helicopter was commercially certified, reducing noise has been a design consideration.

One might call that a pretty successful base design. The tail rotor is a major cause of helicopter noise. On the surface the innovative Bell Electrically Distributed Anti-Torque EDAT system could be seen as a weight and complexity reduction system, and yes it will contribute in both those areas, but the driver is noise reduction.

National parks have strict noise standards and the continuing urban spread associated with some reasonable public concern over the anticipated growth of air taxi services and unmanned aircraft operations around cities and towns all contribute to this demand.

The EDATs is by any measure a significant and highly complex undertaking. Our industry does not often see such true potential game changing designs like this.

While not the only investigation of electric tail rotors worldwide, the EDATs is the first to achieving crewed flight. This is an innovative endeavour, and it offers to bridge the knowledge and experiential gap between the current baseline helicopter design and potential future fully electric powered vertical lift machines.

Counter-Poaching from the Air. Ever since she can remember, Jana Meyer wanted to be a 'Wildbewaarder' - a game ranger, or nature conservationist, in Afrikaans.

Later in life, exposed to different sectors in wildlife conservation, she discovered she had an affinity for helicopters and a natural talent for flying them.

Bronni Bowen looks at the events that sparked Jana Meyer's passage into aviation, and what it is like to be one of South Africa's very few female specialized game capture helicopter pilots.

Paradise for Elephants…But Red dust runs as the rotors wind up. It is August in South Africa - hot, desperately dry and windy - and a massive breeding herd of almost 50 elephants has penetrated the Botswana border, charging the Limpopo River and breaking into a private South African game farm on the other side.

The fenced-in, hectare property boasts numerous water sources, lovely green Mopani trees, and giant green Acacias lined up along the banks of the river.

An elephant's paradise! For the farmer, however, it is devastating. A herd this size will destroy the natural vegetation and infrastructure here in a matter of weeks.

Elephants pull plastic water pipes from under the ground, stretching them like chewing gum until they snap to access the fresh, clean water inside.

They plunder gardens beyond repair, break fences, and push over beautiful trees. It is enough to bring even a fiercely patriotic animal lover to his knees.

The only option is to drive the animals back out as benevolently as possible: a job that requires a specialized aerial team.

They are only fourteen minutes flying to some of highest peaksin the Swiss Alps. Besides working as a rescue pilot, he alsoprovided flight training at the Mountainflyers flight school.

In he sold thecompany to private investors. They continued operating a R22 and a Jet Rangerand later started to rent them to newly trained pilots.

By they felt that therewas not enough business volume to maintain the company and they asked ChristophGraf to be a flight instructor and develop the company further.

With new investmentin aircraft and the facilities at Bern-Belp in he eventually brought out thewhole company from the investors.

From until today Mountainflyers has grown from the two helicopters in tothirteen and he has added a second base at Grenchen after purchasing Heli West.

Babcock Australasia improves access to emergency medical services. This prestigious award, sponsored by Airbus Helicopters, recognizes an air medical program that has demonstrated a superior level of patient care, management prowess and quality leadership through visionary and innovative approaches, customer service, safety consciousness, community service and commitment to the medical transport community.

The award was presented to Vanderbilt LifeFlight on Oct. We are thrilled to recognize the hard work and dedication of its entire team.

The award is a reflection of our commitment to our hard-working employees, their safety and patient care. The trial involves testing of the air basic aircraft systems, emergency operating modes including autorotation landing, flights with a cargo container weighing up to lb kg.

Measuring 23 ft 7 meters long, 5 ft 1,50 meter wide and 7,7 ft 2,35 meters tall, and with a rotor diameter of 20,6 ft 6,28 meters , it is capable of carrying up to lb kg with a range of up to mi km.

UAVOS's conversion solutions incorporate installing an increased fuel tank and setting repositioned and larger heat exchangers that make wider operational temperatures range.

UAVOS's parachute system has been installed as well. The advantage of the UVH UAS is the fact that it can be operated in the areas without airfields, under severe weather conditions and during night-time, in the conditions with the high risk for the pilot.

The UVH unmanned helicopter is able to send freight to destinations including islands, mountain areas, remote construction sites and other similar locations.

Using the most progressive technologies developed by UAVOS, the UVH is an ideal platform for fast and reliable transportation of humanitarian goods to rural areas.

Vertical Aerospace secures UK Government funding. This two-year project, expected to be completed by October , pioneers a new wave of aviation battery development.

Most development in battery technology in recent years has come from the automotive sector, however these batteries are not optimized for aviation gravimetric energy or power density requirements.

The collaboration between Vertical and Warwick University will take cutting-edge electrochemical concepts and principals from academia and apply them to the production of a charger with an incorporated diagnostic device, effectively a smart charger.

The charger will analyse in-flight and charge event data. This data could then be used to optimise battery lifetime, schedule maintenance and detect anomalies.

This will give Vertical enhanced in-flight performance, safety, and the ability to produce a pre-flight fitness report for the battery.

An aerospace application provides a fantastic opportunity to utilize methods, designs, models and algorithms that were not financially, volumetrically or technically feasible before.

Using these novel approaches, we plan to significantly improve the safety, range and capability of our battery system. Vertical will be joined in this project by technical experts from Warwick University.

Warwick will be researching the algorithms and models from automotive, ground storage and academia that are suitable for this application.

This project will allow us to expand our capabilities in battery characterization, battery system modelling and novel methods of fault diagnosis and prognosis.

All within a sector that is strategically important for the UK as it move towards its zero emissions transport targets.

More than patients were evacuated in North Ossetia. Russian Helicopter Systems has said that patients have been evacuated by the Ansat medical helicopter in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania since the beginning of duty in The flights are carried out by the pilots of the Russian Helicopter Systems company and doctors of the regional Ministry of Health within the framework of the national project "Healthcare".

The use of a helicopter in high altitude conditions made it possible to significantly reduce the time of medical evacuation of patients from remote regions of the Republic.

The Ansat helicopter is equipped with a modern domestic medical module developed by the Kazan Aggregate Plant. The equipment of the module makes it possible to provide high-tech medical care to patients in severe and extremely serious health conditions during transportation to a specialized healthcare institution.

The Company's fleet today has 17 helicopters of this type, 15 of which are equipped with a modern medical module manufactured by the Kazan Aggregate Plant, as well as 2 Ansat helicopters in VIP modification.

In addition to the standard array of missiles and guns, you will also find power-ups hidden throughout the game which will give you everything from vital mission data to temporary invincibility.

The weapons are easy to use, the guns and missiles automatically track enemy targets, but you can override the automated tracking whenever you want.

The graphics in HeliCops are okay, but do not compare well with other flight combat games. The missions with many buildings look good and the graphics for the night missions are great, but the ground is flat in areas where there is more open space and the texturing is bland.

The graphics performance is also poor -- even on a high-end Pentium system the game often stuttered or jumped. The cutscenes between missions are the best feature in the game; they tell the story of the struggle between the HeliCops and Nemesys and give you your mission objectives.

The style is heavily based on Japanese animation -- the futuristic look really enhances the game. The sound effects and music are the weakest features in HeliCops.

The effects for gunfire and explosions are good, but the sounds of the helicopter engines are cheesy and the music tracks are annoying enough that I shut them off after playing a few minutes.

The manual is fairly thin -- but with the simple controls you do not need any more. It gives you background information on the pilots, specs on the five helicopters, pictures of the enemies you will encounter, mission briefings and information on the power-ups you will find during play.

The storyline in HeliCops is great and the easy controls and variety of missions make this game lots of fun for less-experienced gamers.

The only drawbacks are the less-than-impressive sound effects and choppy display. Overall I enjoyed the game, but it could have been much better.

I give HeliCops a score of 78 out of Browse games Game Portals. Install Game. Click the "Install Game" button to initiate the file download and get compact download launcher.

In the spring of , Russian Helicopter Systems became the first civilian operator of the newest Russian helicopter Mi They will be used by several operators in different regions of the country.

One of the helicopters in the batch is intended for the AeroGeo airline and will go to Krasnoyarsk. The transferred Mi-8MTV-1 helicopters are multipurpose, in the cabins there are prepared places for the installation of medical modules, modifications have been made to equip the aircraft with additional fuel tanks, and 22 passenger seats are provided.

Thus, the production plan of Kazan Helicopters for 3 years indicates loading by helicopters of this series ", - said the managing director of the Kazan Helicopter Plant Yuri Pustovgarov.

The initial phase of this program will develop requirements for a flight data monitoring program to support electric vertical takeoff and landing eVTOL vehicles on the Uber platform.

Flight Data Monitoring FDM , is the process of analyzing and reviewing routinely recorded flight data. Airlines and operators that adopt Flight Data Monitoring are better able to identify and eliminate potential safety hazards in flight operations.

Since its introduction in the airline industry more than 20 years ago, Flight Data Monitoring has been widely credited with reducing incident and accident rates at airlines and aircraft operators where it has been adopted.

Alarmed at the growing corruption and ineffectiveness within the city's police department, Governor Koyo created a secret airborne strike force known only as The HeliCops.

Commander Iemitsu Kabutogani, a decorated veteran of the NeoTokyo police, was the only one the mayor could trust to lead the special force. This undercover unit was assembled from unconventional sources, from law enforcement to high technology, preparing for the day when Giger would reveal himself.

That day came all too soon. Before the HeliCops even had a chance to fly their first mission, Governor Koyo was brutally assassinated in a cowardly car bombing.

This left NeoTokyo in a state of shock and Maxwell Giger more feared and more powerful than ever. The Governor's death was only the beginning.

The city is on the brink of collapse and Maxwell Giger has released a "wolf pack" of his most sinister allies to fan the flames of terror and confusion among the citizens of NeoTokyo.

You are in control of the HeliCops, a secret organization of five top-notch pilots who are the last line of defense for NeoTokyo.

Each pilot has different missions in the war, so you will need to play all five to complete the game. Once you have selected your pilot and mission, you choose a helicopter, ranging from the Ninja lightly armed, but extremely maneuverable to the Brutus, a heavily-armed flying fortress.

Choosing the right chopper for the mission will often be the difference between success and failure. You are given an objective for each mission, ranging from collecting data pods to destroying truck convoys.

There are lots of enemies that will try to distract you from your objective, both in the air and on the ground.

You will need to keep your efforts focused on the task at hand to succeed. The first few missions take place in wide open areas and offer only a minimal challenge, but they quickly become more difficult -- some of the best missions have you maneuvering your helicopter between skyscrapers and even inside the buildings.

HeliCops has a simple flight engine with easy to learn controls -- the focus is on fun gameplay, not on accurate flight simulation.

The default controls can be awkward to use, though, especially if you don't have a good joystick. You can reconfigure all the controls—after some experimentation, I found settings that worked for me.
