This is a slow film about a writer on tour in New York, where he wants to see the subject of his book, Rebecca, the great love that seemed to have passed him by.
He is famous and his mannerisms are pretentious as he talks about himself, almost fawning on the confusion and disorder of his life in a melancholy way.
His wife also lives in New York, separate from him yet enjoying her own life - one of those weird "modern" marriages.
Then he reconnects with Rebecca, who has become a brilliant hot shot lawyer. They do a trip to Montauk, one of their places, and talk.
Of course there is sex, but the real story is simply their chemistry at the moment and a long-needed confession. I found the story very powerful, the chemistry and resolution realistic, the revelations well worth the wait of the slow pace.
Nina Hoss does a phenomenal job as a career woman who is an emotional burnout. Another very good film. See all reviews.
